mHealth4Afrika presented to mHealth Technical Working Group, Malawi, 25 April 2017

mHealth4Afrika is providing regular briefings to national stakeholders as part of policy input. In this context, Dr Chipo Kanjo, Chancellor College, University of Malawi briefed the mHealth Technical Working Group in Malawi on 25 April 2017 in relation to ongoing mHealth4Afrika activities and the introduction of sensors in the context of the beta pilot, which will commence in June. 

The TWG meeting, under the Theme “from eHealth to mHealth – effective solutions at community level in Malawi” brought together stakeholders from organisations, NGO, government departments, academic institutions and consortiums working on mHealth related systems including: MoH, MoH/CMED, Baobab Health Trust (BHT), Luke International Norway (LIN), D-Tree, Village Reach, Dignitus International, University of Malawi representing mHealth4Afrika Consortium, University of Mzuzu representing Supporting Life Consortium.

The aim of the TWG meetings is for stakeholders involved in healthcare delivery to provide updates and discuss what is being implemented and where in the mHealth landscape in Malawi as a way of avoiding duplication of initiatives; identify initiatives that can be scaled and replicated by other partners; agree on standards where possible and ensure that these standards are being reinforced; etc.

Dr Chipo Kanjo presented the mHealth4Afrika objectives, achievements to date and shortlisted CE sensors that will be used by antenatal care nurses at the point of care during the mHealth4Afrika beta pilot to capture readings related to pulse rate, blood oxygen levels, blood pressure, blood sugar levels, temperature and weight.
