14 September 2017

IIMC (mHealth4Afrika Coordinator) and University of Gondar were invited to brief the Amhara Regional Health Bureau on mHealth4Afrika achievements to date in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia on 14 September 2017.

The Amhara Region Health Bureau, Ethiopia is responsible for overseeing 67 hospitals, over 839 health centres and 3336 health posts serving a population of 21,134,988  in the Amhara Region, reports to the regional government and national Ministry of Health.

mHealth4Afrika provided a demonstration of the current version of the platform to Dr Abebaw Worku, Head of the Amhara Regional Health Bureau and his team. We also took the opportunity to demonstrate the CE approved sensors that the nurses are using at the point of care in the intervention clinics in Ethiopia during the beta pilot to take blood pressure, pulse, oxygen in the blood, glucose, temperature and ECG were also demonstrated. This demonstration showed how the readings are displayed on the Android application on the tablet and then populated into the patient's electronic health record using HL7 FHIR.

The feedback to the sensor and mHealth4Afrika platform demonstrations was very positive. It was agreed that the Amhara Regional Health Bureau will recommend to the Ministry of Health to visit one of the mHealth4Afrika intervention clinics in North Gondar during the upcoming MoH Annual Review in November 2017 to see the nurses using the mHealth4Afrika platform.
