mHealth4Afrika Briefing Meeting with CDC

Paul Cunningham, IIMC (mHealth4Afrika Coordinator) was invited to participate in an “Inter-governmental Learning Exchange to Advance Data-driven Decision-making” (I-LEAD) Visit organised at Centre for Disease Control (CDC) Headquarters in Atlanta from 12 - 14 February 2018. 

Paul presented a session on Innovation and Technology Capacity Development to CDC staff members and a delegation of officials from the Ministry of Health, Zambia. Paul's presentation provided insights into 

• how the European Commission is supporting health related research funding and health related capacity builing;
• IST-Africa activities supporting Innovation, Science and Technology related Policy, Research and Capacity Development; and 
• mHealth4Afrika and the lessons learnt to date from deployment at resource constrained healthcare clinics in Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi and South Africa

Paul also made a presentation on mHealth4Afrika to the Health Informatics, data management and statistics Branch of CDC. This branch were very interested to learn of the approach taken for mHealth4Afrika and achievements in the intervention countries.
