mHealth4Afrika Presentation and Demonstration Stand during WSIS 2018

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2018 took place at the ITU Building in Geneva, Switzerland from 19 - 23 March 2018. The WSIS Forum is one of the largest annual gathering of the ‘ICT for development’ community. The annual WSIS Forum is a global multi-stakeholder platform facilitating the implementation of the WSIS Action Lines for advancing sustainable development. The Forum provides an opportunity for information exchange, knowledge creation and sharing of best practices, while identifying emerging trends and fostering partnerships, taking into account the evolving Information and Knowledge Societies.

mHealth4Afrika was very visible in the Program with presentations at:

The presentations were complimented by a demonstration stand in the Exhibition, which facilitates engagement with delegates from a wide range of countries. 

WHO/ITU Session ALFM Action Line C7 eHealth, 19 March

This session was organised by WHO and ITU and brought together organisations working on eHealth to share experiences, lessons learned and trends. The presentations focused on how appropriate eHealth solutions can strengthen health systems and empower community health workers to manage the delivery and promotion of healthcare particularly to reach the last mile in resource constrained environments.

The mHealth4Afrika presentation focused on highlighting the benefits of the co-design process undertaken and the functionality of the mHealth4Afrika beta platform. The presentation was positively received with a lot of questions about the approach and achievements to date. 

mHealth4Afrika Workshop, 22 March

The workshop provided an opportunity to share results from the initial base line study and needs requirements and comparative findings from the alpha and first iteration of the beta evaluation in Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi and South Africa. A demonstration of the mHealth4Afrika platform, medical sensors used at the point of care and Android application to capture the sensor readings and transfer using HL7 FHIR to the patient's electronic patient record was provided. 

This workshop was very well attended and was interactive with a range of comments and questions.
